TORONTO - The mother of an accused hit-and-run Hummer driver who allegedly killed a seven-year-old Ajax boy has now been charged as well.

The OPP alleges the 63-year-old Toronto woman hampered their investigation into her son’s involvement in the deadly New Year’s Day crash on Hwy. 401.

Luisa Baladaris is charged with obstruct police, the OPP said Wednesday.

Police said she is the mother of Jose Olmedo Renteria, 30, who was arrested Jan. 4 and charged with three offences relating to the collision.

Renteria was allegedly behind the wheel of a Hummer H2 that smashed into an Ajax family’s Honda Odyssey in the westbound lanes of Hwy. 401, east of Dixie Rd., around 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 1.

“The Hummer did not stop and continued on to Dixie Rd, where the vehicle (was) abandoned,” the OPP said of the H2, which they allege was stolen.
