EDMONTON — In an unusual move, Mounties in Red Deer, Alta., have released the name of an underage teen wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder in a shooting death on New Year’s Day.

Police believe 17-year-old Adam William Lee Bird of Winnipeg is in B.C., but are not ruling out the fact he could still be in Alberta or other parts of the country.

Due to the nature of the offences, Bird is considered armed and dangerous, said police, and should not be approached if he is seen.

“Do not attempt to follow him. All they need to do is contact their local RCMP or police agency immediately,” said Cpl. Sarah Knelsen.

Due to the nature of the offence and public safety, police applied for a court order, granting authorized publication of the accused’s identity for five days.

The body of Robert Sarson, 25, was found in a vehicle around 5 a.m. on Jan. 1.
