MONTREAL — A Laval, Que., man who was living a jet-set lifestyle is accused of running a New-York-based drug empire that American authorities brought down following a five-year investigation.

Jimmy Cournoyer, 33, allegedly sold $800 million worth of marijuana in 10 years, according to court documents obtained by QMI Agency.

Documents also indicate Cournoyer enjoyed an opulent lifestyle and owned a Bugatti Veyron car worth over $1 million.

He allegedly rose to the top of a North American consortium of drug traffickers that authorities say sold more than 100,000 lbs. of pot in the New York City area from 2002 until last year.

Cournoyer, nicknamed "Cosmo," was arrested in Cancun, Mexico, last February following the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's lengthy investigation.
