OTTAWA — Amalle Thomas remembers the moment she decided to live.
Duct-taped to a chair, her throat slit three times by the assailant who’d broken in as she and her husband slept, she felt her blood soaking her clothes.
She feared her husband, Francois Renaud, was dying upstairs from stab wounds inflicted by the bizarre stranger who’d terrorized them for hours in their west-end bungalow.
“I was wondering if this is it for me, I’m going to die here,” she told the jury at the trial of the man accused of trying to kill them both.
“I felt myself getting weaker by the moment. I’m thinking in my head -- am I going to let myself die like this? No. I have to try again. I want to see my family again.”
