Alleged torture victim 'whipped like Jesus,' court hears

LONDON, Ont. — A 27-year old woman with cerebral palsy endured scaldings, beatings and sexual abuse at the hands of two roommates who held her captive in their London home for four years, the Crown alleged.

Among other things, the court heard, the victim described being "whipped like Jesus" with an extension cord.

Assistant Crown Fraser Ball said the accused pair committed "torture" and the victim "felt she had no means of escape."

Johnathon Rick, 38, and Cynthia Anderson, 36, are jointly charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and unlawful confinement.

Rick is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault, assault with a weapon and sexual assault with a weapon.

The pair pleaded not guilty to all charges.
