Ontario man arrested for 1993 abduction
By Kelly Pedro, QMI Agency

ST. THOMAS, Ont. — Police in this southern Ontario city say they've arrested a 51-year-old man wanted for abducting his three young daughters 20 years ago.

Benham Slim is charged with three counts of parental abduction and failing to attend court.

St. Thomas police travelled to the U.S. border in Windsor, Ont., Tuesday morning and met with U.S. Marshals who transferred Slim into their custody.

The abduction charges stem from a 1993 investigation during which St. Thomas police found that Slim's three daughters, ages 7, 6, and 2 were taken to Beirut, Lebanon, in contravention of a court order.

In 1997, Slim was arrested at Toronto's Pearson International Airport. His three daughters weren't with him. He was released on bail with the understanding he would return the children and face the charges in 1998. Authorities say Slim did neither.

In early 2003, with the help of the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon, the girls were reunited with their mother, who now lives in Texas.

Slim was arrested in Detroit on Oct. 25, 2012.
