LONDON, Ont. — One of two people accused of torturing a woman with cerebral palsy was beaten by fellow inmates at a London jail this morning.

Johnathon Rick, 38, was injured at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre shortly before he was to be transported to the London courthouse, where his trial was supposed to be resume.

“Mr. Rick was beaten by some of the other inmates and has been transported to hospital,” Antin Jaremchuk, his defence lawyer told Justice Lynne Leitch.

Leitch agreed to postpone the trial until Friday.

Rick and his girlfriend, Cynthia Anderson, 36, are facing a combined 11 charges, including aggravated sexual assault, for a long-term confinement and torture of their 27-year old roommate.
