Two women face 44 sex and assault charges after two young girls were seized from a Regina apartment.

No details were released about the alleged abuse but charges include sexual assault with a weapon and producing child pornography. Regina police were initially investigating allegations that two children were abusing a third child.

A followup investigation led to the belief that two women in the home may have sexually and physically abused two girls, aged 10 and 11. Police say the alleged abuse took place between Jan. 1 and 18.
