ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. — A northern Ontario man threatened to kill his young stepson in front of police officers, a judge heard Friday.

The boy had called the police on Jan. 15 after he returned home from school to find the intoxicated man watching pornography on television.

The 11-year-old ran to turn the TV off before his sister came in, assistant Crown attorney David Kirk said.

When officers arrived they could see Robert Thorsteinson was drunk and had a bottle of liquor on the table.

He admitted drinking, and the belt and fly on his pants were undone, Kirk said.

When officers asked him about that he told them it was none of their business.

Thorsteinson kept telling the boy he was bad and would have to go to a foster home, Kirk said.

After the child told the officers what he had seen, the 28-year-old man threatened to kill him and went towards the boy before police stopped him.
