EDMONTON – First-degree murder charges have been laid against a 32-year-old woman in the death of her seven-year-old son.

Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, EMS treated the boy in a suite at an apartment building in south Edmonton. The child was quickly taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The mother was in the home when police arrived and taken into custody.

An autopsy was conducted on the boy Tuesday afternoon, but the cause of death is not being released. There are few details surrounding the boy's death, but police believe he drowned.
