WINNIPEG — Former Winnipeg cop Richard Dow, sentenced to jail last year after pleading guilty to sexual assaults against 11 young women, was found dead behind bars Tuesday, his lawyer confirmed.

RCMP released little information about the death at Headingley Correctional Centre, but Crystal Antila, who represented Dow, said she was told the deceased is Dow.

The disgraced former police officer was sentenced to 16 months in jail in September after previously pleading guilty to 11 counts of sexual assault and one count of simple assault in connection to his dealings with girls and women who modelled for his now-defunct talent agency, RiCoCo International between 2001 and 2005.

“I heard earlier this morning from the institution that he was deceased but I haven’t heard anything specific in terms of cause or where or anything like that,” Antila said.

RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Line Karpish would only say that Mounties are investigating a death that happened around 10:30 a.m.
