LONDON, Ont. — Christopher Gale, 31, said he didn't call police after his girlfriend shot herself in the head with a homemade gun and instead buried her in his backyard because he thought police would think he killed her.
They do, and now he's on trial accused of murdering Jocelyn Bishop, 21.
In a videotaped interview with police almost two weeks after he said Bishop shot herself, Gale told police he regrets not calling them.
“I don't know why I didn't tell the truth from Day 1,” he said.
He told Det. Const. Zaia Lazar he made the 9-mm handgun Bishop used to kill herself in front of him. He said he built it for her to use at the firing range.
“She wasn't allowed to touch it,” he told Lazar during the interview, which was shown to the jury Monday morning.
Gale said the gun, part of a large collection he had in his house, wasn't registered.
