Charged hockey dad speaks out
By Chris Doucette, QMI Agency

TORONTO -- For two days, Brad Fenney has been painted in the news as yet another loose cannon hockey parent.

And while the Scugog, Ont., man regrets his actions during a recent run-in with a 17-year-old referee at a Port Perry, Ont., rink after his stepson's game, he wanted to come forward to QMI Agency to try to set the record straight.

"This has been blown way out of proportion," Fenney, 29, said Wednesday.

The business owner maintained he didn't start the altercation but got involved because of the teenage ref's foul language in front of kids. He said the alleged assault was minor.

Durham Regional Police released a statement Tuesday saying Fenney is charged with uttering threats and assault in the Feb. 19 confrontation at Scugog Arena.
