Man re-arrested in 1993 cold case

Christine Harron vanished on her way to school in 1993. (HANDOUT)

WALKERTON, Ont. — Anthony Edward Ringel was charged Thursday for a second time with the murder of Christine Harron, an Ontario teen who went missing nearly 20 years ago, after police said they discovered new evidence in the case.

Provincial police made the announcement Thursday in this town northwest of Toronto.

Ringel, 44, of Chesley, Ont., faced the same charge in 2004 and reportedly admitted to the crime, but was freed in 2006 after the Crown determined police erred in the course of their investigation, according to a CBC investigation.

Harron was 15 years old when she disappeared. She was last seen May 18, 1993, on her way to school in nearby Hanover.

Her body has never been found.
