SARNIA, Ont. — A drug addict who took up residence at a stranger’s home while the woman was in hospital has booked a stay at the Sarnia Jail.
Daniel Ryan Cope, 31, of Sarnia, was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to being unlawfully in the home on Feb. 8, as well as violating a probation order to keep the peace.
The woman returned to her home after surgery to find the door chained shut from the inside.
The woman and a man assisting her called out until Cope came to the door, but neither person knew Cope.
Authorities believe Cope used a key hidden outside near the door to enter the home. Once confronted, Cope left.
Nothing appeared to have been stolen but the bed and bathroom had been used and some of the woman’s food had been eaten, court heard.
Cope appeared to be high on drugs when he left the home and was arrested days later.
