CALGARY - A man was sent to hospital Saturday after hanging onto the side of a careening minivan in a last-ditch effort to stop a suspected hit and run driver.
After the wild ride and subsequent crash into Toa Vietnamese Cuisine, police are reminding people not to take matters into their own hands.
The van’s 43-year-old driver was taken into custody and a 28-year-old man was hospitalized after a crash police believe was fuelled by alcohol.
Cops say the crash stemmed from an earlier collision between a Dodge Caravan and a four-door Mitsubishi sedan at 3:30 a.m. on 8 St. and 8 Ave. S.W. The minivan fled the scene, the other car following hot on his trail.
When the minivan stopped for a traffic light at 6 St. S.W., the driver of the Mitsubishi confronted him, police said.
The driver of the Mitsubishi then reached into his van to try to stop him, at which point it took off northbound as he hung out of the driver-side window, police said.
