CALGARY — Charges have been laid against two Alberta men accused of running a sheriff vehicle off the road then beating a Good Samaritan who stopped to help before stealing his truck.

A sheriff was attempting to pull over a Ford pickup reported to be driving dangerously on the QEII Highway near Crossfield, Alta., when it rammed into the side of the police cruiser, knocking it into cables separating the roadway, police said.

The truck broke down at a nearby exit, and when a Good Samaritan stopped to help two men allegedly assaulted him and stole his truck.
