Why did a Toronto Police sergeant use a Taser on Sammy Yatim after he was shot eight times and very likely already dead?
It’s a question that comes up every day since the July 27 shooting of a knife-weilding teenager on the 505 streetcar.
Many in the public say they want to know the answer. Toronto Police Thursday promised that they will get it.
The details and rationale behind Yatim being struck with a Taser after shots were fired are subject of an active internal investigation, Toronto Police confirmed.
And the TPS’s professional standards branch is also probing just what did happen in a video that appears to show police officers traipsing through the crime scene on Dundas St. W. near Trinity-Bellwoods Park.
“The chief has ordered an investigation into all aspects of this incident,” said spokesman Mark Pugash.
He said he does understand there is great concern among the public.
