EDMONTON -- The death of a toddler in Hobbema is suspicious, say Mounties.
RCMP responded around 5 a.m. Sunday to a call of an unresponsive toddler on the Ermineskin Cree Nation at Hobbema. Cops performed CPR but were unable to resuscitate the child, who is believed to be around 18 months old.
One neighbour, who didn't want to be named, said she awoke to loud yelling and crying from the home next door.
"One of them came running to my house to borrow the phone to call an ambulance and I heard them all yelling, 'She's not breathing'," she said.
Sgt. Josee Valiquette said Sunday that the investigation is ongoing but so far no arrests have been made and no one is in custody.
Mounties said firearms were not involved in Sunday's death and it is not gang related.
The cause of death is unknown and an autopsy is slated for Tuesday.
