WINNIPEG -- A local man who sparked a frantic manhunt after he kidnapped and raped a 16-year-old girl should go to prison for 14 years, a judge was told Tuesday.
Clay Byron Starr, 22, has pleaded guilty to sex assault, kidnapping, robbery and flight from police.
Court heard the victim was just two days from graduating high school and had suffered a knee injury that put her on crutches when she unexpectedly crossed paths with Starr on June 22, 2011.
The victim and a 16-year-old cousin were sitting in a parked car when Starr jumped into the driver's seat. The victim's cousin was able to jump out of the vehicle before Starr sped off.
