OTTAWA -- Two minutes were sufficient for the 16-year-old to provide sexual services to 41-year-old client Fazel Popal.
Known as Nic to his friends, the soft-spoken Popal had paid the girl's alleged teen female pimp $50 to $70 for what turned out to be 120 seconds of her time in June 2012.
Though the deal was for sex, Popal was perfectly willing to cancel when the girl told him she was menstruating, but as he turned to leave the bedroom, the girl caught his arm. Her friends might beat her if she returned too quickly, she told him.
"I guess she was scared," Popal told court.
After a months-long hiatus, the trial of three girls aged 16, 17 and 17 resumed Monday before Judge Diane Lahaie.
The teens -- who cannot be named because of their age -- are accused of running a prostitution ring featuring underage girls as young as 13.
Popal, however, said his 16-year-old sex partner had told him she was over 19 when they chatted over cigarettes before venturing into the bedroom.
