OTTAWA — The list of most wanted foreign criminals on the loose in Canada is growing.
Eight new faces are now on the list reissued by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on Thursday morning.
Among the most dangerous of the new additions are Ethiopian national Abdirahman Moumin Okie, 41, and Portuguese national Jose Joaquim Garcia Da Costa, 55.
Okie, previously known to be in Montreal, is wanted for sexual assault, while Da Costa, whose last known address was in Toronto, has been convicted of assault with a weapon.
Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney says 46 criminals have been located in Canada, with 39 of them deported – a small fraction of the record 18,700 removals from the country last year.
Another nine criminals have been located outside the country since the CBSA’s list was first issued in July 2011 following pressure from Sun Media.
“Thanks to the information provided by the public, the CBSA has been able to locate 40% of the persons on its wanted list,” Blaney said, adding the new people on the list are dangerous criminals who “have no business being in Canada.”
“The persons being added to this list, as with the others, are those who have been found to be inadmissible to Canada under the law and who have managed to evade or conceal themselves from immigration authorities.”
Canada-wide warrants are out for the arrest of everyone on the CBSA list.
Anyone who can help locate someone on the list should contact police or the CBSA directly at 1-888-502-9060.
