EDMONTON - A 59-year-old man has been charged after allegedly leaving his 11-month-old grandson in a van for almost an hour.
Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said two witnesses reported that they came across the child in the van at the Terwillegar dog park around dinnertime. on Saturday. The Dodge Caravan’s doors were unlocked and one window was completely rolled down and witnesses said the grandfather returned to the vehicle about 45 minutes after the child was first spotted.
EMS was called to the scene and the child was found to be unharmed before being returned to his mother.
The incident is the third of its kind in four days and police are reminding parents and guardians to take closer care of young children.
“In all three cases, each child was easily accessible by anyone passing by, leaving each child vulnerable to medical distress, anxiety, and crimes against children, just to name a few,” said Sgt. Gary Willits of the EPS Child and Risk Response Team. “
