TORONTO - A serial rapist and career criminal pleaded guilty to two brazen gunpoint attacks and then sought a softer sentence Monday after admitting he helped Toronto Police on an unrelated criminal investigation.
Alexander Winston Sylvester has a criminal record that spans three decades in the U.S. and Canada. Sylvester has a New York manslaughter conviction that resulted in a sentence of up to 25 years in 1983.
Justice Anne Molloy agreed to impose a publication ban limiting the media on reporting any details on the investigation that Sylvester helped with.
Sylvester, 57, pleaded guilty Monday to a 1981 rape of a 14-year-old Mississauga girl and a 1993 attack, unlawful confinement and robbery of a 53-year-old sunbather at her Scarborough home.
