An Edmonton mother convicted of drunkenly assaulting her two sons with a coat hanger should be put behind bars, argued a Crown prosecutor Thursday.
Yvonne Lee Riviere, 31, was facing a sentencing hearing in Provincial Court after earlier pleading guilty to two counts of assault with a weapon.
According to an agreed statement of facts, Riviere was with her eight-year-old son at their west-end home on April 21, 2012, and she had been drinking alcohol all day. At one point, she became angry with the boy and chased him up the stairs to his room while carrying a grey metal coat hanger, court heard. She then hit him in the face with the coat hanger about six times.
Later that day, her 10-year-old son returned home with his father from a shopping trip and they saw the bruises on the eight-year-old boy's face. Also later that day, the two boys were in the older one's room and they began arguing about toys.
