OTTAWA - The Ottawa Police's Guns and Gangs Unit has charged a 50-year-old man after he allegedly burst into a west-end school with an airgun making threats last week.
Panic ensued after the man walked in through the unlocked front door, pulled the fire alarm and barged into the vice-principal's office last Thursday. D. Roy Kennedy Elementary School was quickly evacuated, with frightened parents rushing to pick up their kids and bring them to safety.
Nobody was hurt during the incident.
Cops arrived minutes later and Tasered him before arresting him.
Gary Bertrand faces charges of possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon, endangering the lives or safety of the public, mischief and making a false fire alarm.
He appears in court the first week of November.
