TORONTO - After evading justice for 18 years, a Toronto father has admitted inflicting the excruciating burns that resulted in his 20-month-old stepdaughter’s scalding death.
Germaine Lindo, 40, pleaded guilty last week to criminal negligence causing the death of Candance Lindo.
He immersed the child in a bathtub of scalding water at their Galloway Rd. home on Oct. 29, 1993, after the toddler soiled her diaper and made a mess.
She suffered second and third-degree burns on her feet, legs, thighs and perineal region.
The girl died on Nov. 26, 1993, succumbing to septic shock and multiple organ failures.
Lindo bolted to his native Jamaica after Candance’s mother, Rosemary DaSilva, was charged with manslaughter on Nov. 4, 1994. Lindo never contacted Rosemary after her arrest.
