EDMONTON - A would-be Bonnie and Clyde were caught copper-handed in Sylvan Lake.
Mounties there said a break and enter call at NexSource Power came in around 10:38 p.m. on Oct. 11.
Mounties at the scene saw two suspects trying to steal copper wire there. The suspects then tried to take off in a truck, ramming through a locked gate.
It didn’t take long for the police to catch up and the suspects were arrested without incident.
Corp. James Allemekinders said the police found copper wire and stolen credit cards upon arrest.
Allemekinders said if the public sees suspicious people or vehicles to call police.
“I don’t have a message to the bad guys other than they can be killed by cutting the wrong wires,” he said. “It’s very dangerous, that’s for sure.”
He added the wire in this case was in a storage area.
With no serial number, copper wire is hard to identify and easy to get rid of.
