OTTAWA -- A man is in custody after a woman's body was found in a dumpster in neighbouring Hull, Que.

Ottawa police got a call from a man just before 9 p.m. Saturday saying he wanted to speak to an officer in French.

He told police he wanted to confess to a murder and was told he had rights to a lawyer before he proceeded. An Ottawa officer met the man later, spoke with him and took him into custody.

Cops say he told police they would find a woman's body at a triplex on Montpetit St. Ottawa officers contacted Gatineau police who went to the apartment where they found a woman's body -- the suspect's girlfriend -- in a dumpster.

The woman's death has been ruled a homicide -- Gatineau's fourth of 2013.

The suspect remains in Ottawa police custody, but was to be transferred to Gatineau Sunday.

An autopsy has been ordered on the woman's body to determine how and when she died.
