TORONTO – An elderly man has been murdered at a Toronto nursing home, possibly stabbed to death with a cross by his roommate.

Police say they responded to a call for "a medical complaint" at Castleview Wychwood Towers, a long-term care facility on Christie St. north of Dupont St., around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Officers were met by staff and led to a room on the fifth floor where they found the victim, Toronto Police homicide Det. Ted Lioumanis said hours later.

He said Francisco DaSilva, 87, had obvious signs of "trauma to the body" and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His roommate was taken into custody.

Francesco Greco, 81, is charged with second-degree murder.
