An Edmonton man who brutally stabbed his wife to death in a "fit of jealousy" was sentenced to life in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Irineo Villaflor Odoy, 62, bowed as he tearfully apologized to the family of victim Marietta Echavez, 52, and then begged for forgiveness before being handed a life sentence with no chance of parole for 12 years. "It was an egregious death and an egregious circumstance," said Court of Queen's Bench Justice Eric Macklin, adding that it was aggravating that the "brutal" and "tragic" 2011 killing was a case of domestic violence.
