TORONTO - A downtown church hopes the thieves who stole their life-sized statue of a cloaked and begging Jesus -on loan from a well-known sculptor- will return it in time for Christmas.

The 45-kilogram resin statue was taken from its stone perch outside the Church of Stephen-in-the-Fields in the College St.-Bellevue Ave. area on Nov. 30.

Toronto Police said it was stolen around 4:20 p.m. Investigators would like to speak with anyone with information about its removal.
