CALGARY - One Mountie remains in hospital after being run over by a truck during a violent encounter at a rural property near Vegreville, Alta., Monday night.

Another officer was shot in the arm before the standoff between police and two men ended around 8 a.m. Tuesday and a pair of suspects were arrested and charged.

RCMP received a call at 2 p.m. Monday that one man was threatening to shoot and kill another man, and officers went to investigate, Chief Supt. Randy McGinnis said. About an hour later, Mounties were called to a nearby home where a resident found someone had broken in and stolen several firearms. The resident, who scared off the culprit, gave a description of the man and his vehicle that matched the first caller's description, McGinnis said.
