EDMONTON— The RCMP officer run over by a one-tonne truck during a Tofield, Alta., farm gun battle is recovering in hospital and in good spirits, police say.

"(The) officer is out of surgery, in good spirits and is still receiving medical attention," said RCMP Sgt. Josee Valiquette. "He is still in hospital and recovering."

Valiquette said the officer's family is at his Edmonton hospital bedside as the investigation into the Monday-night violence at the farm near Tofield, about 68 km southeast of Edmonton, continues.

The accused is also recovering in Edmonton hospital from gunshot wounds sustained in the gunplay with RCMP members. Another RCMP member suffered a superficial gunshot wound when he was grazed by a bullet.
