British police want to speak with three men who are reportedly the main suspects in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The U.K. Daily Mirror reports the Crown Prosecution Service has sent a letter of request to Portuguese police, asking for permission to arrest the three men.

McCann was three when she went missing from a Praia da Luz resort on Portugal's southern coast in May 2007 while her parents were having dinner with friends a short distance away.

Police say the three men, alleged to have broken into rooms at the resort to rob them, made an unusually high number of phone calls after the girl's disappearance.

The Mirror reported police believe the men accidentally woke Madeleine during a break-in and decided to take her.

Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, haven't commented on the latest reports.
