LONDON, Ont. - Police are investigating after a loaded, sawed-off double-barrel shotgun was found on the property of a north London, Ont., elementary school.
The principal at Knollwood Park public school contacted police after the weapon was found Wednesday shortly after noon.
“An adult discovered it sticking out from a snow bank, said Richard Hoffman, a spokesperson for the Thames Valley district school board.
Police arrived and seized the weapon.
Students were in class when the weapon was found but were never in danger, Hoffman said.
Investigators say the weapon may be connected to an attempted robbery that happened nearby on Saturday.
Two young men armed with a gun went to a home on Apeldoom Cres., located a few blocks away from the school, and demanded money from the occupant, police said.
The suspects, described at young males wearing dark clothing, fled the scene on foot.
