Four Canadian men — two of which are said to be members of B.C.'s Independent Soldiers gang — have been arrested in the Philippines for allegedly trafficking drugs to the country from Mexico.

James Riach and Barry Espadilla were arrested after raids in "posh" condos Wednesday, the Manila Bulletin reported. The two men are said to be members of the Independent Soldiers in Vancouver, a gang that's grown in prominence in the illegal drug trade in B.C. in recent years.

The Associated Press said Ali Shirazi and Tristan Olazo were also arrested.

Rommell Vallejo of the National Bureau of Investigation in the Philippines told The Associated Press this was the first time they have "encountered a syndicate composed of Canadian nationals."

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said the men were members of a drug syndicate connected to a Mexican drug cartel, the Bulletin reported.

Police reportedly seized cocaine, meth and the drug MDMA, which is similar to ecstasy, worth millions.
