WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg woman who was stabbed in the leg by a carjacker was able to remove her seven-year-old daughter from the vehicle before her attacker sped off.

Parmjeet Kaur, 30, put her daughter Kamolpreet in her 1998 Honda Accord at about 6 a.m. on Wednesday, intending to drop her off at daycare before heading to work. Kaur was clearing snow from the front windshield when a man approached demanding the car keys.

When she refused, Kaur was pushed to the ground, she was then stabbed in the lower body when she tried to get up and the man took the keys.

“She said, ‘My baby is inside the car.’ He said, ‘OK, you can take her out. Hurry up.’” Surinder Mallhi, whose cousin Swarn Singh is Kaur’s husband, recalled Thursday from the home the cousins and their wives share. “She took her from the car and he (drove) right away.”
