TORONTO -- Victim Carina Petrache and her accused killer Farshad "Shawn" Badakhshan appeared to resemble "zombies" when the burning couple staggered into the kitchen of their home, her murder trial heard Thursday.

Tenant Peter Charyna testified he thought Petrache, 23, was with magical "fire" and that the thick red line across her neck was a necklace as she tried to scare him as a prank.

But Charyna said he soon realized her throat was actually slit and she was really ablaze. He grabbed some newspapers to save her.

A few minutes later, Charyna noticed Badakhshan with his shorts in flames in the kitchen.

"He looked dazed like a zombie," the witness said.
