EDMONTON — A St. Albert, Alta., man who was clocked going 264 km/h on his motorcycle was fined $2,500 Thursday after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.

Paul Bennett, 34, was also banned from driving for a year.

Defence lawyer Tim Dunlap said Bennett was going 264 km/h for only a “very, very brief time” and called it a “one-off” that he attributed to his client having a motorcycle and, like many young men, wanting to see what “this thing would do.”

And while the extreme speeding only lasted for a few seconds, Dunlap conceded it was “crazy, unexplained and inexcusable behaviour.”

The offence occurred on a busy freeway during afternoon rush hour on May 1, 2012.
