HALIFAX -- The couple accused of murdering a Mississauga, Ont., woman and her adult son will be shipped back to Ontario this week.

Melissa Merritt, 33, and her live-in boyfriend, Chris Fattore, 36, made a brief appearance in court in Halifax Wednesday.

They are accused of killing Merritt's ex-husband and father of two of her children, Caleb Harrison, on Aug. 23. Police allege they also murdered his mother Bridget Harrison three years earlier in the same Mississauga home.

Wearing sweatpants and a faded black T-shirt, Fattore told the judge he had only briefly spoken with a lawyer "during the arrest."

Merritt said nothing and pulled a green hoodie over her head whenever she was lead in and out of court.

The pair were arrested in the tiny Nova Scotia village of Italy Cross, about 90 minutes outside of Halifax on the picturesque south Shore.

More than a dozen Peel Regional cops descended on the rural farmhouse Tuesday morning with the RCMP.
