CALGARY ─ Confessed baby killer Meredith Borowiec must serve another 18 months in jail for tossing two newborns into dumpsters and leaving them to die, a judge said Wednesday.
Justice Peter McIntyre said that time is in addition to the 36-months credit Borowiec gets for pre-sentence custody, bringing her total term to 4 1/2 years.
And Borowiec was also handed a three-year term of probation for aggravated assault after throwing a third newborn into the same trash can, one who lived.
Because of her mental health issues surrounding childbirth, Borowiec will be under a separate court order for the next 10 years that will monitor any future pregnancies.
If she becomes pregnant, the Calgary woman must inform probation services, her medical practitioners and child and family services.
Borowiec, 32, was convicted last year of two counts of infanticide after McIntyre ruled she was mentally disturbed after giving birth.
