KITCHENER, ONT. - A Toronto man busted for being a gardener at a massive indoor grow-op avoided deportation when a judge answered his plea and spared him from being jailed.

"I want to stay here with my wife," Yu Chen, 37, told Superior Court Justice Stephen Glithero through an interpreter.

"Please give me a chance. I'd like to stay in Canada."

Glithero suspended sentence for Chen and Hao Ran Liu, 27, of Toronto, who was also a gardener at a sophisticated greenhouse operation north of Waterford, Ont., that police raided in June 2011.
