CALGARY — The striking similarity to the case of an abused dog and cat found dead last month has shocked a Calgary couple, whose stolen pooch was found hog-tied, its mouth bound with a leather belt.

What happened to Radar, a three-year-old white akita-husky mix, is "heart-wrenching," said owner Alyssa Hatfield, who became emotional as she recalled the struggles her pet went through after he went missing Friday.

She said even more frightening was "the fact that it's almost identical" to a pair of horrific animal slayings in Calgary earlier this year.

Last month, a Willow Park resident found a dead female Husky with its muzzle taped shut, followed a week later by the discovery of a dead cat with its mouth taped up.

"Instead of his mouth being taped shut, it had been bound shut with a leather belt," she told QMI Agency Saturday. "His legs were tied together — hog-tied with a plastic rope."

Hatfield, who wasn't home when the incident took place, said her fiance Cameron Edmonds discovered the dog was missing around noon Friday when he went home to feed Radar and three other pooches.

He went looking for the missing pooch and found him in a "horrifying condition" in a back alley four blocks from their home about two hours later.
