OTTAWA -- A London, Ont., doctor and accused terrorist believed that "a global conflict" was being fought between supporters of Islam and perceived enemies of Islam, Crown attorney Jason Wakely alleged in court on Tuesday.

In his opening address, Wakely alleged Khurram Syed Sher, 31, who is charged with conspiring to facilitate terrorist activity at some point between Feb. 2010 and Aug. 2010, agreed to "support the cause of the violent Jihad."

Support could range from sending money for weaponry, raising money for others, obtaining paramilitary training or training in how to make or use explosives, court heard.

Wakely said evidence during this trial will include intercepted audio-communications, including from cellphones, payphones and bugged rooms, or "room probes."
