SARNIA, Ont. ─ A 19-year-old Sarnia, Ont., man is charged with shooting a cat in the head 17 times.

The two-year-old cat, named Joe by animal shelter staff, was found on Feb. 2 with 17 pellets in his head. All but one of the pellets were removed in an operation last week.

Sarnia police said the man was arrested at his home Thursday.

A small amount of marijuana and Oxycodone and codeine pills were found in the home, police said. The man faces two counts of animal cruelty and several drug charges. The man’s name was not released.
