A Florida couple faces child neglect charges for allegedly feeding their 3-year-old son nothing but applesauce and milk his whole life.

Champagne Gillis, 31, and her boyfriend, Thomas Phillips, 38, of Boynton Beach, told police the toddler doesn't like solid food, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Police arrested the pair Friday after the boy, who weighs 25 lbs., turned up at a hospital with a 102-degree fever, diarrhea and a mouth full of sores.

Phillips said he and Gillis didn't know how to get the child to eat and worried that force-feeding him would be considered abuse, according to the report.

The parents also told police the child didn't like toothbrushes and hadn't brushed in more than a month, the newspaper reported.

Authorities are investigating and have removed the couple's other two children to the homes of relatives.
