VANCOUVER -- A man alleged to have assaulted staff and caused a disturbance at a Vancouver MLA’s office last week has been charged.

Michael Melvin Williams, 53, is charged with assault and mischief under $5,000.

Williams is alleged to have assaulted staffers at BC NDP environment critic Spencer Chandra Herbert’s office on Feb. 21.

Chandra Herbert said Williams was complaining about a rainbow flag in his Denman Street office before allegedly shouting anti-homosexual slurs, punching a hole in a door and assaulting a staff member.

Williams’ next court appearance is April 4.
