The Crown is awaiting ministerial approval to proceed with a long-term offender hearing against serial sex offender Douglas Gordon Jenik, court heard Friday.

Crown prosecutor Janice Walsh told provincial court Judge Gerald Meagher it is her intention to apply for a long-term offender tag for Jenik.

“The Crown is in the process of getting approval from the attorney general to proceed with a long-term offender application,” Walsh said.

She said she expects to get approval very shortly.

“At that time the Crown anticipates being able to set this matter down for a long-term offender hearing before ... Judge (John) Bascom,” she said.

Jenik earlier pleaded guilty in connection with an incident at a southwest bus shelter where he molested a 16-year-old girl after showing her his penis.

According to a statement of agreed facts, Jenik approached the teen on Feb. 26, 2012, stood in front of her and put his penis next to her face.
