Two students from a New York state college have been charged with torturing an animal after allegedly forcing a dog to do a keg stand.

Police in Brockport, N.Y., began investigating after a photo of someone holding a black lab over a beer keg and forcing it to drink from the nozzle went viral over the weekend, USA Today reports.

The College at Brockport students Shane Oliver and Roberts Yates, both 20, were arrested and charged with torturing and injuring an animal. Police say Oliver held the dog above the keg while Yates took the photo and then later posted it online. Police believe the keg stand occurred at an off-campus house party.

The dog is in good health and has been taken to a local animal shelter. Police say the dog's owner wasn't home when the photo was taken.

A spokesman for the college told reporters school officials "were alarmed to see the photos and will investigate it and take appropriate action."
